Day 16 - Convicted by the Spirit
Read John 16:7-11
Have you ever heard the phrase “Nobody’s perfect”? Or how about this, “We all make mistakes”?
Jesus tells his disciples here in John 16 that it will be better for them that He would go away. How would that be better? Shouldn’t we want Him with us at all times? Jesus knew that through Him leaving, the Spirit, or as He says here, “the Helper” will come. Jesus knew that the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers would be better than the physical presence of Jesus. And Jesus says here that He, being the Spirit, will convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.
David Guzik wrote, “Sin is the truth about man, righteousness is the truth about God, judgment is the inevitable combination of these two truths.” Before having the Holy Spirit, people will say phrases like the ones I listed at the beginning. But after the Holy Spirit comes and brings conviction, our hearts change and we say, “I’m a sinner in need of a Savior.” “I must rely on Jesus to get right with God.” The work of the Holy Spirit is to come and tell the world of the importance of trusting in God, relying on God, and clinging to Jesus to avoid sin. Jesus finishes by saying that the Holy Spirit will come to guide us into all truth. The world preaches that you need to find your “truth”. The reality is that there is only one Truth; that Truth is found in Jesus.
Has the Holy Spirit been convicting you about something lately that you have been ignoring? Ask the Lord to search your heart and reveal those things to you, and then repent and lean into the conviction of the Holy Spirit. He wants to guide you back into the Truth.
