Day 2 - God is Righteous
Read Deuteronomy 32:1-4
This passage in Deuteronomy is a song given to Moses by God to be sung by every family in Israel. The Lord’s instruction to Moses was that each generation of Israel would teach this song to the next. The truths passed down would stand as a witness to the nation in the days when they would turn their back to the Lord in rebellion.
Moses began by calling heaven and earth to be witnesses of these truths and to stand in agreement with God’s righteousness in His judgments against a rebellious nation. “The heavens declare His righteousness” (Psalm 50:60). To those who listen to the instruction of the Lord, His voice is like refreshing rain on the grass bringing life and causing its hearers to be fruitful.
What truth is a rebellious nation to be reminded of?
He is the Rock: We are living in a time of rapid change. Principalities and powers of our day are in a full rage against the Lord and are seeking to blot out all forms of godliness from the earth. Even so, our God is the Rock that cannot be shaken. Can a mountain be moved by an ant? Can it be toppled by the wind? So too are all the schemes of man in vain. “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.” - Hebrews 12:28

His work is perfect: Every work that the Lord puts His hands to is good and without error. Every work He does among the nations, whether in judgment or blessing, is good and without error. Every work the Lord begins in your life is good, full of purpose, and without error. We can rest “being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” - Philippians 1:6
All HIS ways are justice: Justice is a huge theme in our culture. Society is desperately trying to bring about justice for itself. However, the truth that we are seeing played out time and time again in the name of “justice” is that “the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God“ (James 1:20). The justice of man is not the same as the justice of the Lord. His judgments are perfect and without injustice. His judgments are moral and good because God is the author of morality (Colossians 1:16-17; 1 John 1:5 ). Does your heart long for justice? Look only unto Jesus. He is the one true Judge and He alone brings perfect justice.
God is Truth: It is not only that God acts according to the truth but that He Himself IS the truth. “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life’” (John 14:6). Truth is not relative. Truth is not changing or evolving with society (Hebrews 13:8). Truth can be known because God can be known. “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,’ says the LORD” (Jeremiah 9:23-24). A nation in rebellion would do well not to live according to “your truth” but to humble themselves and live according to the Truth.
God is Righteous: This is the righteousness of God; that all His works are perfect and good. That He is without injustice. He is the author of morality and therefore is the one true judge who alone brings about perfect justice. God Himself is truth and therefore all He is and all He does is correct, good, and righteous.
May we receive the refreshing rain of the Lord today as we listen to the instruction of His Word and meditate on His righteousness!
