Day 14 - Jesus is the Vine
Read John 15:1-11
Have you noticed that our Master is a master at making metaphors? “I am the light of the world.” “I am the bread of life.” “I am the good shepherd.” “I am the door of the sheep.” Today we focus on “I am the vine, you are the branches.”
Jesus is the true vine that perfectly provides everything necessary, the lifeblood to the branches in order that they bear much fruit. They have a specific purpose. That sounds like what we read in Ephesians 2:10. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” We were made to abide in Christ. We were made to bear fruit.
So, what is this fruit? A simplified answer is – that which glorifies the Father and shows that we are disciples of Jesus. The only way is in Christ. It is not possible without Him. Think through all the ways we can do that. The first example in this context is when we love one another. Beyond that, the list is long - obeying His commands, sharing the Gospel, and bringing others to Christ. Just think of all the “one another” commands in the New Testament. The Heavenly Vine enables us to glorify the Heavenly Vinedresser and enjoy all the benefits of this Heavenly fruit. Praise Jesus.
